Dr. Cheng established Elite Foot & Ankle as his private practice in 2009 to serve the communities of North Texas.
Dr. Cheng was born in New York and grew up in New Jersey. He has called Texas home since 1984 and attended Plano Senior High School graduating with the class of 1987. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. Upon receiving his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Dr. Cheng proceeded to do a post-doctorate podiatry rotation with attendings and surgical residents of the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. This was then followed by a wound care preceptorship with Dr. Wayne Caputo who is based out of Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Cheng then completed an internship in primary podiatric medicine based out of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and other hospitals in Queens and Brooklyn, NY that that are affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. This was followed by a three-year residency in reconstructive foot & ankle surgery based out of Doctors Hospital of West Covina that included a 6-months long rotation at a surgery center in Houston, TX and training at program-affiliated hospitals all around Southern California including Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Hospital, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton.
Dr. Cheng's training encompassed all aspects of trauma and reconstructive surgery of the forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle as well as sports medicine, diabetic limb salvage, and wound care. He continues to actively attend and participate in surgical training courses offered all across the country as part of his ongoing effort to update himself on the latest skills, knowledge, and technology.
Dr. Cheng is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery and is Board Certified in both Foot Surgery and in Reconstructive Rearfoot & Ankle Surgery. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeonsand the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons and is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Texas Podiatric Medical Association, and Dallas County Podiatric Medical Society. Dr. Cheng is an active medical staff member of Carrollton Regional Medical Center, Dallas Medical Center, Eminent Medical Center, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital-Plano, and Medical City Las Colinas Hospital.
Dr. Cheng has served as an attending for the 3-year podiatric medical & surgical residency training program based out of Huntsville Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Texas.
Dr. Cheng will always approach treatment in a conservative manner until it is either exhausted or when surgery is determined to be the best viable option. New technologies will always be introduced and implemented as part of his practice. He is a dedicated doctor whose philosophy to patient care is "patients are family" and healing begins with compassion and communication. Only then will the patient and doctor be partners on the road to ambulatory wellness.
